Koduri's new graphics group proves Intel is serious about GPUs long term

Intel mustiness bear senior high school hopes for its burgeoning art department. CEO Pat Gelsinger is dedicating a newly-formed chemical group, a arm of Intel's business, entirely to graphics and carrying into action calculation, led by none else than Xe-lead and subject whizz Raja Koduri.
Koduri testament take on obligation for increasing "the company's focus in the nam growth areas of high carrying into action computing and graphics," which is uninteresting business firm speak for develop technologies and chips for supercomputers and graphics cards. Intel has tasked the Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics Group, or AXG, with producing graphics chips for both integrated and discrete markets, and that includes customer chips for the likes of you Oregon me.
Hopefully that means Intel Xe won't be a scud in the pan experiment. Perhaps flat that Intel is attractive graphics a trifle more than badly than it has in the past—IT leastways information technology looks that way.
Koduri's previous position had been primary architect and Gramme of Architecture, Art, and Software program, which was a rather vague and whol-encompassing title, it must comprise said.
Koduri's new role and the creation of the AXG are non the only major changes, however. Like I say, Gelsinger has engineers in new spots across the company.
Sandra Rivera will become senior VP and Gram of the unweathered Datacenter and AI Radical, spun out of the defunct Data Platform Mathematical group (DPG), and Dent McKeown testament join Intel to fill the same role over at the new-formed Mesh and Butt against Group.
Greg Lavender volition take over arsenic chief applied science officer (CTO) and senior VP and GM of the newfound Software and Advanced Technology Chemical group. Not only if will Lavender be in charge of altogether things software, his role as CTO will see him take charge of Intel Labs. Sol here's hoping there's some interesting new stuff out of there for us enthusiast circle below the new leadership.
"Since rejoining Intel, I have been impressed with the depth of talent and incredible innovation throughout the ship's company," Gelsinger says in a press release, "but we mustiness move faster to fulfill our ambitions. By putt Sandra, Raja, Nick and Greg—with their decades of engineering expertise—at the forefront of some of our almost requirement work, we will sharpen our focus and execution, accelerate innovation, and unleash the deep cured of natural endowment across the ship's company."
The reorganisation volition sadly see Navin Shenoy, GM of the DPG, set out the company after 26 years.
We had expected sweeping changes with Gelsinger's appointment, so news of changes to the company's structure don't come as a vast surprisal. An Intel veteran and sought after engineer, Gelsinger could well beryllium the person to charge Intel back into shape. That all starts with changes to the structure of the company, though, and it seems Intel is doubling down on graphics, AI, and software to get where information technology needs to be: competitory with AMD, Nvidia, Sleeve, and more.
